Mouf is a dance piece which embodies and explores oral fixation through playful soothing techniques. Drawing inspiration from Freud’s theory of oral fixation in the oral stage, the dancer feels the drive to bite and place their body parts in their mouth, especially one’s own breasts. The biting brings the same comfort as the womb and breastfeeding. Mouf creates an all consuming desire to place your body within your body, placing the public facing limbs into the private safety of the mouth.
